It's my first year experiencing the Fringe here in Brighton. I found really cool how much diversity there is in the artists that are playing all around.

I just came back from seeing a Kuwaiti artist named Etaf that had a very interesting sound. They call their music alternative Arabic music, and it definitely was interesting to listen!

They also have a very good presence on stage. Very unapologetic and funny. I really enjoyed their set.

Here's some of their music in case you might be interested in listening: youtube.com/watch?v=mzzpO_fNFk

My record player got here today! I've been very excited about it since I've acquired a small collection of vinyls in the last few concerts that we've been to. I'm excited to delve more into it tomorrow!

Following on the entries I can make following what the micropub client that I'm currently using allows me, I have added a new list for games I've played.
hideout.ink/play/

I liked doing this because I learnt a nice trick abotu positioning images on top of each other.

I am currently reworking most of the list sections on my site. Just added a listening section: hideout.ink/listen/

It taught me a lot about grid-columns and how frustrating they can be lol

Reworked my gallery page! It now takes the notes with photo parameters that I've added through the micropub client. I'm super happy about it! :D

Watched "I saw the TV glow" yesterday. It's such an interesting and overwhelming movie. The OST is right up my alley and has accompanied me through my day. It's a bit of a sad day, so it's been nice to find myself surrounded by sad sounds that nurture my feelings.

@benji found all of the easter eggs! :D

I found your website fascinating! I got a whole bunch of ideas out of it.

There are a couple of things that I didn't quite got how it worked. First, what is sparkles? I see that all your posts are posted through it. Second, I don't really understand the reactions button on your posts. Is that also part of webmentions?

I'm very new to it, so sorry if it's an obvious question!

The maybeshewill gig was SO GOOD. I can't believe how energetic everyone in the band was!

There is something so awing about watching people do what they love. I could feel all the energy they gave in all the songs they played.

They played In Amber, my partner and I's favorite song by them. We have been listening to them ever since they released their Fair Youth album. That was more than 10 years ago!

I don't say this lightly, but that album completely changed my life back in Uni. I got so much joy and inspiration from their music, it was amazing. I totally recommend giving it a chance, and if you do, try and listen to it from start to finish maybe while taking a walk. It's such a great experience.

I got my gallery up and running as well! I had a bit of a frustrating bug where only some images would show when I deployed the site, but apparently it had to do with the naming of the images.

I used dots '.' to format the name of the images when they were displayed in the gallery.

So, for every year and every month I would use this naming convention: "year.monthnum.monthname.jpg". Apparently, hugo didn't like that. I changed to going back to dashes and all is good now!

The stuff you learn when you get angry at your web framework.

I've been working the best part of the evening on creating a Hugo Mastodon feed for my website. I learnt a lot about RSS and how to fetch data through jQuery.

If all goes right, it should be on hideout.ink/micro/ soon!

Something I've ran into lately is Netlify taking a bit to trigger the deployment of my site after I send a commit. Not really complaining, just something that caught my attention.

One big thing that I've been able to do since we moved to the UK is spend more time on improving my website.

I started posting weekly blog posts about our adventures here, and I also added a whole new section of my book reading list, which you can find here: hideout.ink/bookshelf/

I felt very rusty doing code stuff again, but it was nice to finally add my forked version of the bookshelf module I started using a few months ago for it.

My next project is creating a photo gallery of my monthly pictures. I despise using Instagram so much that I would love to have my own hosted solution for sharing pictures and updates.

I've found a few websites that have implemented this. I particularly love benji's photo implementation: benji.dog/photos

I also borrowed the idea of having a micro-blogging section from a blog that I was reading the other day. I feel like once I have a place where I can drop short thoughts I won't have much need from social media anymore and will be able to disconnect much more often.

Another section that I'm considering adding is a "what's on my iPod?" section. A collection of music that I currently have on my modded iPod and where you can get/buy it.

It's feels nice building a space of my own.

It's sad season coming my way.

I went to see Porter Robinson at the O2 Academy yesterday, and I still can't believe I saw one of my favorite artists live.

THEY'RE HERE!

Finally made it to Brighton yesterday!

Jetlag has not being as bad as I thought it would be.

I hope today we can open our bank accounts so that we can start working in our upcoming weeks.

Our dogs are still at the airport getting checked out and getting their documentation cleared so they can enter the country. I am a bit nervous about that, but trying not to worry about the things I can't control.

hey, nothing are so good!

Loved the last song on their set. It's got such a melancholic yet hopeful vibe.

It made me feel as if I had a conversation with my younger self in which I let them know that we have made it so far, through thick and thin, we are still here.

Wordle Spoiler

Today's Wordle is me 🦑

Anyone here has any experience with hybrid note taking? For my ADD I've been trying to distance myself from electronic devices and go back to paper, but I miss my note taking in Obsidian. I've looked for hybrid methods, but most I've found is people going back to just one method.

Fell asleep yesterday and didn't fill my izzzzi's entry :(

Got our contracts today! We are moving to Brighton!
