Lots of eventful things happened this week! I think I can start by talking about something I had been waiting for the last few weeks… MY PC FINALLY GOT HERE!

PC and Hard Drive Shenanigans

PCSpecialist finally delivered my PC!! I had been waiting for it for the last few weeks, and it’s even better than I imagined! I was initially very nervous because I ended up spending much than I had initially thought, so I really wanted it to have no issues with it. I am happy to say that so far everything has been smooth sailing. My last PC, the one I sold in Colombia, I had it for around 11 years upgrading it a couple of times throughout the years.

I was very surprised by the PCSpecialst quality of service. Throughout the whole build process they gave me updates of each step of the way. At some point I even got a render of what my PC looked like right before they finished with the building process! I am honestly very impressed and satisfied with it.

I think I really wanted to invest in a PC that could last me at least the next 5 years without needing an upgrade. Here are the specs in case you were curious:

I was even able to set up my external HDD reader! —->

PC on a moveable base

M.2 Drive

I brought most of my HDD and M.2 drives from Colombia. I didn’t get a chance back then to really wipe and backup my data, so I said, fuck it, I will either mount them to the new PC or use the external reader to access the data.

Well, apparently the M.2 drive that I got is not compatible with my M.2 enclosure. I was very worried because I had some data that I really needed to move to my new PC. I looked online and none of the M.2 readers were compatible.

I was already worried at this point, so my anxious head really said, what if I just kind of connect it to the enclosure, transfer the data, and then format it. Well, that’s what I did!

I had to find a way to get back read/write access to most of the files in the drive since this is where I had my previous Windows OS. Luckily, a quick google search showed me how to do it, and after a few hours of transfering my data I could finally format the drive!

I think Sofia got the recipe from Maya (fitgreenmind on Instagram). It’s SO GOOD.

We’ve got orange tofu at home

Sofi and I have been trying to continue with our book club / date night tradition. Every Tuesday we prepare food that we don’t normally do, and agree on an activity that either of us might want to try. For example, last week we watched Mickey 17 (I didn’t get a chance to watch it on the cinema, so we watched it on Prime!) and had burgers from Burger Brothers, one of the best burger joints in the UK.

Well, this week we decided to cook orange tofu and have a chill evening. Ever since we’ve moved to the UK it has been really hard for us to slow down enough to plan a meal other than sandwiches, or take away. So, on Tuesday we agreed on going to Sainsbury, getting the ingredients we needed, and spend the evening cooking. I was in charge of prepparing the orange sauce, and let me say that it was pretty good! A bit on the sweeter side, but nothing we couldn’t fix with a bit of extra sriracha.

If you want the recipe, I’ll leave it here since I couldn’t find Maya’s original post 😞

RECIPE:

(3 servings each 350cal/17P/34C/15F)

  • 400g tofu (pressed and cut into chunks)
  • 3 Tbsp corn starch
  • salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste
  • oil for frying

DUST tofu in starch and spices/FRY until crrrrispy

Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup (125ml) orange juice
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 Tbsp agave or maple syrup
  • 1 Tsp each Chili and Ginger
  • 2 Tbsp starch + 3 Tbsp water

MIX everything/HEAT it up and STIR until thickened/ADD tofu with onion greens and sesame

Maybeshewill

We started our anniversary celebration by going to the maybeshewill gig! It was hosted at the Arch over by the beachfront. We got to the venue early because we wanted to get to see the opening band, but we might’ve overshoot it and got there extra early. Sofi asked me if I wanted to sit by the sea with her, and so we did. The weather was really good and there weren’t too many people. It was perfect for us to just kind of be there and enjoy the moment.

I love her smile, when she smiles she can light the whole world. ❤️

I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy seeing maybeshewill live. I think it was watching how much they were enjoying themselves playing live. In my head, I imagined that it would be a pretty chill concert, but I was completely mistaken. Everyone was giving such a vibrant and contagious energy. It felt passionate, it felt real, it felt so human. There is something magical on watching a group of people do what they love on a stage, and sharing this experience with the audience.

Their setlist had a wide variety of songs from their biggest albums. In a weird way, I was really happy that In Amber was the only song they played from the Fair Youth album. It gave me a chance to really immerse myself into the rest of their material.

I have a really big obsession with a couple of songs from their most recent album, No Feeling is Final. They played live Zarah and Refuturing live, and my life has not been the same.

I was hoping that they brought merch so that I could get the 10 years anniversary Fair Youth vinyl. It had been on my bandcamp cart for the last couple of weeks, so I didn’t miss my chance and got it as well as a shirt from their Not For Want of Trying album. I chose it because it’s got the lyrics from He Films The Clouds Pt. 2. Something about those lyrics makes me think about the current state of the world. The more I’ve been listenting to their songs, the more I realize the anticapitalist message their songs convey.

Now we’re apart.

Though not through choice.

Do we stay mute?

Or raise our voice?

Anniversary

I can’t believe it’s already been six years since we got married! I still can remembed that day as if it was yesterday. It seems pretty cliche to say, and I always thought people exaggerated when they said this, but it really was the best day of my life so far. To celebrate this year, we chose to do two things: get tickets for Slam Dunk, and go to the re-screen of Pride and Prejudice.

The re-screen was only available on the Marina Cinema, so we took a bus to get there. It was our first time going that far east! It was also our first time riding the bus by ourselves.

The movie theater was much better than expected! It is such a different experience than what we were used to in Colombia and Mexico. The concessions stand had products that you could pick yourself and just checkout at the register. It was a much similar experience as when we went to the movies in Sweeden.

The movie room was also much better than we expected! The seats were really spacious and comfortable. They had a recliner, so I was able to really make myself comfortable. The drink holder wasn’t at the same level as the arm rest, so that made it much easier to use.

Overall I think it was a really good experience!

And, the movie was quite good too. I mean, we had already watched Pride and Prejudice several times before. But, getting to watch it on the big screen of a movie theater surely makes it more magical.

The popcorn were lowkey really, really good!

While writting this post I looked through some of our old pictures. What I love the most about it is noticing how even if we are such different people now, we are still at our deepest core the same two kids that fell in love listening to music on the park next door.

Young us

Maybe we will be everything we say.

Maybe all that we dream will fade to gray.

Either way, I will stay with you. ❤️

Yeah, after all this time

I’m still into you

The Park

I’ll finish this week’s post by leaving this picture I took on one of the walks I took this week.

I don’t remember the last time I stopped to look at the trees. Hell, I can’t remember the last time I looked up to the sky. I feel like I’ve been looking at the ground for too long.

I really hope that in the next couple of months I can get to a place where I feel okay. Both mentally and physically.

I think therapy is a huge step! I want to take my physical health seriously as well.

It’s not that I don’t think that I shouldn’t take it seriously, it’s just very hard for me to prioritize what I can’t see or feel in the moment.

Damn ADHD and it’s very frustrating quirks and symptoms.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

🥲

Okay, this is the last, last story. We found a buy one get one free pizza promo at Papa John’s.

Since the incident of the 2x1 pizza we denied in Guadalajara, we decided to not let it happen again.

We ordered one vegan pizza and a non-vegan pizza promo. In theory, we should’ve gotten 4 pizzas. (Don’t shame me, pizza is pizza)

Well, when I received my order I only got two pizzas! In that moment I thought they had forgotten about my pizzas since I added a couple of ingredients, so I ordered a second non-vegan pizza promo.

When I told Sofi about this, she checked the pizza and, surprise! The pizza that was delivered was the non-vegan pizza instead of the vegan pizza.

At this point it was too late to cancel the additional non-vegan order I had just made.

So, we made a third order, this time making sure we got the vegan promo.

Now, we have six pizzas at home because we didn’t want to miss on a buy one get one free pizza promo again. 😵‍💫

Pizza

Well, that’s the end for me today. I’ll be back next week with more stories!
